I'm a former professor of religious studies turned hospital chaplain that has a love for old-school roleplaying, particularly original D&D and B/X D&D. If you enjoy pondering the esoteric nature of early D&D, or just want to poke around and see what another player does in his old-school games, then you should find something of interest here.

GLOG-Inspired Magic for Anglo-Saxon Long Night D&D Game

What follows are some of the current house rules for the magic system in my current Long Night campaign. These rules represent changes that will significantly affect traditional D&D gameplay. Such changes are obviously not for everyone. While my game has been running along just fine, it’s still too early to determine if this GLOG-inspired system will work for long-term play.

Dabbling with MidJourney

I wanted to do another quick post showing some of results I produced after playing around with MidJourney to create AI-generated art. Admittedly, it has been both fun and interesting (and a bit addictive). I’m definitely still learning how to best use prompts to generate images at least somewhat reflective of my initial vision; however, even when that does not occur I am often fascinated by the results. What follows are some images generated using my current Long Night campaign as inspiration. Enjoy!

A Long Night Campaign Game Report: Session 4

Well, it was inevitable. My partner has COVID. I’m somewhat surprised it took this long for someone in my immediate family to get it (at least to our knowledge), especially in my line of work. We’re fortunate to have some good friends who are currently out of town, and so she has been using their home to quarantine herself. While she’s on the mend, I’ve been taking care of the kids. Anyway, I’m chilling at the moment with my youngest who is engrossed in some cartoons. I’ll use the opportunity to get another game report posted. Below is a recap of our fourth session, a session in which a new player joined our game. See this post for an overview of session 3.
