Woden is the All-Father, a war god of blood and violence primarily associated with kingship and magic, especially healing magic. He is widely worshipped, especially by warriors and tribal lords seeking supremacy in battle and in the meadhall. Warriors often refer to him as the Bringer of Victory, and kings frequently connect their family lineage to the All-Father to reinforce their authority. Practitioners of magic are known to invoke Woden in healing charms, and Scops sing the story of when Woden was sacrificed on the World Tree but did not die. Instead, he is said to have gained mastery over death and acquired great wisdom. Many believe that he is married to Frige, and even children know that he is associated with ravens and wolves.

(Woden is the later Norse equivalent of Óðinn (“Odin”). OE Wednesdæg = Wednesday = Woden’s Day)
